Root Invigoration

Roots need porous spaces in the soil to allow for growth and better absorption of water and nutrients. In urban and suburban landscapes, soil frequently becomes compacted. This can be from construction or vehicles moving near or under trees or just simple foot traffic over time. When the soil is compacted like this, porous spaces are reduced, creating a poor environment for roots.

Cultivating the soil is required to improve growing conditions and make it easier for roots to obtain water and nutrients. We have found one of the best ways to dramatically improve soil conditions is by using a supersonic air tool to till the soil. This tool enables us to loosen the soil to improve aeration while minimizing damage to the roots.

Once soil is tilled, it should be amended with organic matter and nutrients based on the results of soil testing. We call the process of reducing soil compaction and then incorporating soil amendments Root Invigoration.
